Optimizing HookSure Attractants for Flow Rate

An angler's success hinges on understanding the river's temperament. Here at HookSure, we empower you to unlock the secrets of varying water speeds and maximize the effectiveness of our attractant arsenal.

Decoding the Flow:

The first step is gauging the river's current. A simple yet effective method is the "debris test." Carefully throw a piece of light flotsam (a leaf or twig) approximately 2 meters or 7 feet upstream - You can use your rod as a gauge for this length. Time how long it takes the debris to travel this distance. Our advice categorizes flow rates based on these timings:

  • Very Fast Flow (2+ Seconds): Debris streaks past quickly. In these conditions, we recommend holding off on HookSure Convergence for bottom baits, as the powerful current can wash away the attractant prematurely. However, all other HookSure products excel in fast-moving water, whether applied to bottom baits (ledgers) or floating presentations.
  • Medium Flow (4+ Seconds): Debris travels at a moderate pace. Here, the entire HookSure lineup shines. However, for bottom baits, be mindful of Convergence. Conduct a few test casts, varying the application amount, to find the sweet spot that maximizes attractant retention in the medium current.
  • Slow Flow (6+ Seconds): Debris drifts leisurely. This is an ideal environment for all HookSure products on both bottom and floating baits. Let your creativity flow and experiment with different attractant combinations to entice wary fish.

Flow and Groundbait Placement:

The faster the current, the further upstream you'll need to place your groundbait. This ensures the attractant plume reaches the main fishing zone by the time your bait settles. While the exact distance depends on river depth and groundbait breakdown time, remember – a flowing river demands strategic bait placement to maximize its effectiveness.

By mastering these flow-related considerations, you'll transform your HookSure attractants effectiveness, regardless of the river's pace. So next time you're by the water, remember – the key to unlocking a successful session might lie not just in your bait, but in your understanding of the current.
