Pikezilla Product Review: Hooksure from @unfairbaits
This week I was sent some HOOKSURE hook bait attractant samples to try out on my next planned river session. The only experience I had previously with any sort of attractant was predator liquid which you need to apply by injecting dead-baits with a syringe - This is a rather messy affair (and smelly). I used the Sardine, Squid, Garlic and Salmon flavour this time (blue packaging). You can apply this to absolutely anything you like, soft lures, hard lures, hooks etc.
I plan to use the Shrimp, liquorice and garlic version on my next session.
I have broken down my review using 3 headings for the sake of not writing an essay :)
1. Packaging/product.
The overall packaging is excellent quality and includes some easy to follow guidance on the reverse side. The product itself comes in a small robust tube not unlike a lip balm you’d find at your local Boots store (only tastier), this can be easily stored in a bag or pocket making it ultra portable. There is a small lid to pull off and then a twisting cog at the base to twist which gradually raises the attractant from the open end. I would describe the texture of the attractant to be similar to a medium to soft paste. Soft enough to spread, but consistent enough not to break up or fall out of the tube. There is obviously an odour given the ingredients included, however this is not overbearing or offensive even up close.
2. Application.
The application of the attractant was super easy, by simply smearing the attractant up and down the micro shad / hook it spread evenly. Personally I was keen to go a bit further so went a bit overboard on the hook and head of the bait for full effect (as seen in the photo of the micro spikey shad). As per the instructions, I topped this up every few casts.
3. Results (Did the fish like it?)
Here’s what you’re all reading this review for right :)
The short answer is YES!
I would compare this session to a few I’ve had recently, on the same stretch of river, the same weather conditions and using the same micro lure. In previous short sessions, fish have taken the bait but only few and far between, i.e. catch a small perch, fish for another 5-10 minutes and catch another. When using HOOKSURE I was catching small perch more or less on every cast (when not dealing with that pesky surface weed we all love). It really felt like I had the edge and it gave me confidence to keep going as the small fish started to get bigger and bigger.
Now for the best bit! As daylight dropped, Boom!!
I netted a beautiful 37cm Perch which is by far my personal best.
Conclusion:
Generally, fish attractants have mixed reviews from different anglers. Personally I have seen great results on my first session using this and I don’t believe this to be a coincidence.
The stretch of river fished is a popular spot and can be difficult to get results especially on short sessions.
Personally, I welcome anything that can give me that edge, especially when hunting specimens and that all important next PB.
Get yours today, you won’t be disappointed.
Thanks again to @unfairbaits for the samples of this awesome fish attractant and the results it got including my PB 💯🐟
